Last year, her story went viral immediately news broke that her then husband brutally attacked her and ‘cut off her hands’ for being barren. Jackline Mwende is now heavily pregnant for another man, and she is proud to be.
She is not naming father of the baby…. a close friend she started seeing shortly before the alleged attack.
Her marriage to her ex-husband Stephen Ngila Nthenge was childless, and yesterday, she told the a newspaper at her home in Machakos, Kenya that she has no regrets and “opted for this route” out of her deep-rooted desire to bear a child.
According her, the attack might have been because, a day earlier, she was seen publicly with the man she was having an affair with – “It was on the Saturday of July 23, and after spending time with the other man I went back home, where I lived alone because my husband had taken off three months earlier.”
The next day, Jackline was attacked with a panga (a broad blade used either as an implement like an axe, or in combat like a short sword), causing deep cuts in her head and hands. Doctors had no choice but to amputate both her hands.
Jackline Mwende has since been fitted with Myoelectric Prosthetics in South Korea, and yesterday, two organizations – Taita-Taveta Women and ‘Merck More Than a Mother’ (a German organization) gave her a house and a mini supermarket.
