How missionaries reached out to Africans?

How did missionaries try to reach out to the Africans?

Christians who came to Africa to help spread the Good News of Jesus Christ tried to do several things which would demonstrate the love of Christ to people living here. Some of the their contribution to African growth and development includes:

 Better  medical service: They helped them by establishing better medicine. A lot of epidemics and viruses claimed lives of people living here. So, when talking about the impact of Christianity in Nigeria, we should mention how the helped them advance this area.

End of slave trade: Wilburforce, along with Buxton, Macaulay, and Clark . . . all evangelicals who were converted under Wesley’s ministry, were the top leaders in ending slavery (This British action in the 1830’s profoundly affected American attitudes which resulted in the Civil War).

They brought modern  education: They introduced educational programs to fight off the illiteracy through establishment of different educational programs and institutions. They helped them promote better situation with the translation and literature in the state to help them keep up with the rest of the world.

They brought science and innovation: Example of scientist that combined propagation of the gospel with their scientific works;

1. Blaise Pascal: He was a French physicist, mathematician and religious philosopher. He was a child prodigy and as a mathematician he wrote on projective geometry at 17, invented a convenient tabular presentation for binomial coefficients, and influenced Fermat’s development of probability theory. Pascal exerted strong influence on the development of modern economics and social science. He constructed a mechanical calculator for his father, the king’s commissioner of taxes, at the age of 18.
Pascal is famous for the statement known as Pascal’s Wager in which he applied his thinking in terms of probabilities to the question of salvation. Pascal’s Wager paraphrased is:
‘How can anyone lose who chooses to become a Christian? If, when he dies, there turns out to be no God and his faith was in vain, he has lost nothing—in fact, he has been happier in life than his non-believing friends. If, however, there is a God and a heaven and hell, then he has gained heaven and his skeptical friends will have lost everything in hell.’

Finally, they established new missions : This they did to keep up the good work of the lord they started. Many Christian missionaries have contributed immensely to humanity.
